Is Vigilantism Necessary?

    Everyone deserves a protection or prevention according to several laws in Indonesia considered as Human Right. Indeed, people believe that protecting their own security is truly important due to several perceived actions of crime by attempting to take the laws into one's own hands. This activity, classified as Vigilantism, is an action of justice which people leave to overcome problems by their own hands without any considerations of official law enforcement like cops or other securities. Nowadays, this action inflicts some cases which people remain confused whether this action is beneficial or not.  

   Further, this activity is ordinarily motivated by various reasons such as people are lack of trust in justice system ratified officially in the particular area, people tend to assume this activity is the best way to react toward the violation cases instantly when the crimes occur, or even people claim that it would be very efficient for people to take over their own area and its safety due to their best knowing of the area itself. However, besides all of those reasons and assumption, this activity is vulnerable of driving into both advantages and disadvantages.

         

         Briefly, people see this activity as a fine way of fulfilling their wishes in justice due to its efficiency when the problems occur, people cannot wait for cops to come to resolve the problem. In this case, when there is a thievery seen, the fastest and most effective way to catch the thief is by carrying over the problem into people's own hands. This example may remind people how Batman or other superheroes attempt to protect civilians and assault the perceived target by their own systems. Hence, people can be protected faster when the problem occurs.

   Conversely, people see this way inappropriate. They assume this kind of activity is merely another form of crime. People who called themselves “Vigilante”, use any ways of carrying out the safety in their area by assaulting the target verbally or physically, vandalizing and even murdering the individual. As recorded, a guy who initialed as MA was murdered after people had maligned him as a thief who took the amplifier of mosque, the local Societies bluntly burned the target before clarifying if MA was truly stealing the amplifier or not and after the Police investigated, they ensured if MA wasn't actually a thief. 

       

       To summarize, this activity surely could help some people to protect the safety but people also need to consider how this activity could be led into very serious implications or mistrial of the cases if people don't attempt to look forward some evidences to support their actions.
